Agnieszka Szymaniak

Agnieszka Szymaniak’s work is inspired by the stark geometry and tonality of the Soviet era brutalist construction, an architectural form crucial to her earliest experiences.

By capturing and condensing the qualities of this tradition on a two dimensional field, she seeks to produce a concise and poetic analogue of her own visual memory, an analogue in which, in its minimalist aesthetic, there remains sufficient space in which the viewer may project their own fertile reminiscences.

Sheer and enigmatic as they are, the images produced speak to the desolation wreaked by temporal change, and the at once futile and irresistible urge to reclaim times and places past.
