Aubrey Laret’s work explores the unique physical characteristics of digital images i.e. pixels and jpeg artefact as well as the necessary restrictions on quality in order to distribute them digitally. He is interested in the processes used for making digital images - from digital photography to the making of images using computer programmes.
Working in advertising has influenced the graphic quality of his work and as a result, most of what he does is print based using the rich quality of digital print - the flatness of the surface and the intensity of colour. This combination of print and digital reflects the world we live in where modern media shapes the reality of our world.
"I believe that art is first and foremost a visual experience and the physical sensation of looking drives my art. It is a process of playing, experimenting and thinking until something emerges that speaks to you and anyone else that sees it."
