Caroline Jane Harris

Weaving between analogue and digital processes, Caroline's practice traverses printmaking, drawing and photography.

She begin her work by reflecting on mediated relationships to nature and our surroundings - belonging to a world in which first hand experiences are overshadowed by reproductions.

"My actions of recording and analysing through a lens or screen are later replaced by an interest in the material condition of that image and the pursuit of a physical engagement with the output."

Forensically studying slices of time, she examines past and present moments; shifting from the spontaneous capture, to the speed of computer processing, and to the meditative mechanical labour of the hand or press. The content - and idiosyncratic manipulation - of each piece is consciously mimicked to align idea and medium, manifesting both the physical and non-tangible attributes into the works.
