Cathy Mills lives and works in the Stroud Valleys in Gloucestershire. She moved there from London in 1999.
Currently Cathy is involved with printmaking, mastering the technique of stone/ plate lithography and mono printing. In the Summer of 2018, she spent a month training at the Tamarind Institute of Lithography, New Mexico. The experience of the landscape of the Midwest combined with working within a group of likeminded artist/ printmakers was invaluable and inspirational.
Cathy’s work evolves as she starts to print. The process of lithography and the layering of images and colours becomes the route through to her final outcome. The journey is a slow one but suits her. She feels that in a World where there are no certainties, making art work that changes and grows as it evolves helps to process and bring a feeling of love and calm within the chaos. Her still lives are similar in their spirit, to her abstract pieces. They show her love of mark making and especially the feeling of the marks that can be found within the lithographic process. There is a mystical playfulness to all her work.
