Originally from Bristol, Claire Mont Smith received a First in her BA Fine Art at Reading University, an MFA from Chelsea College of Art and an MA in Contemporary Art Theory from Goldsmiths, University of London. She taught for many years as a regular part-time visiting lecturer at Central St Martins, Brighton, Wimbledon, and other art colleges and went on to set up a residential art centre on Dartmoor, Devon, running landscape painting and drawing courses.
Her paintings, drawings, installation work and prints have been exhibited in major public galleries around the UK, with work held in many private and public collections. She is now primarily based in London, with close West Country ties, and is a member of East London Printmakers.
“My prints involve a number of processes and elements that recur in different sequences and have different reactions. Sometimes new characters appear and upset the apple cart! Their story is an invention but, like all stories, it comes from and refers to our lives in the world.”
