Searching for the essence of a chosen subject, Clare Grossman works from sketchbooks and the camera, revisiting a particular composition back in the studio many times over, until it is pared down to a simplified energy of place.

Often working with a restricted colour or a monochromatic palette, l aim to achieve a play of light, the magical substance of shadows and how through their constant flux, a common ordinary view can change dramatically.
