Diane McLellan combines printmaking and photography using modern polyester litho plates or photopolymer etching. Trees, their shapes and shadows are a continual theme. When working from photographs the artist will use Photoshop to refine the image, and then draw on the plate with biro and sharpie. Often, when inking up, McLellan will mark-make with a variety of tools and experiment with colours to achieve different effects. As the plate becomes more worked on and imbued with ink, it often develops a different character, and so becomes a piece of art in its own right.
