Ed Adlington's work has always been his way to understand the world around him, and to engage with his environment. His most recent series, Commute, is a fragmented, distorted take on his urban environment. The series started as a response to a change in circumstances that resulted in a considerably longer commute. Rather than allow that time to be wasted, he discovered a way to engage with the environment by using the tools to hand - in this case, a smart phone - to create and manipulate images of the commute, to document and find the beauty in the racing scene. Back in the studio, Adlington transfers the digital image into a physical object, which he can then work with, and interact with on a personal level, to create the finished work.
