Elizabeth Hayley graduate from the RCA in 2013 and was awarded the “Printmakers Council, Printmaking Award”. Hayley now lives and works in Suffolk, (UK) and is currently artist in residence at the new Riggle Street Residency at Sarah Pirkis Bronze Casting Studio, Suffolk.
Hayley's silver-gelatin prints and photographs document traditional environments such as mills, boatyards and workshops. They are often presented on large scale on metal panels, such as brass and steel, often referencing materials used in the environments that her photography explores. Through the process of making, and the use of hand-made grounds in photographic emulsion and the layered tones of the work, Hayley reveals glimpses into a disappearing world of places and objects of a world gone by and highlights their struggle to survive, constantly reinventing themselves to support new uses.
