Frances Stanfield, co-founder and tutor of London Drawing Group will be demonstrating how she creates her monoprinted “Messing with Picasso” series. Monoprints are unique relief prints that can make wonderfully loose, unexpected and painterly results. “Messing with Picasso” is a rebellious and playful response to working through difficult memories of childhood sexual abuse. Frances created these powerful prints as a way of gaining some sense of control, manipulating an erotic drawing by Picasso (“Nu (Nude)”1979) so that the figure’s flipping the bird. She continues to repeat and evolve this figure but currently there are 20 of them living their best lives. Watch Frances as she takes you through her print process, discovering the accidental marks and textures that help to inform the next version of her exhibited print, “Messing with Picasso (Yellow Guerrilla)”.
