Frances Stanfield

Frances Stanfield created this series of powerful, sexual and uninviting monoprinted figures alongside working on another project “Write Something” - a body of work made as a way of working through sudden flashbacks of childhood sexual abuse. The latter was created from past memories to gain a sense of control whilst waiting 6-12 months for therapy.” “Messing with Picasso” is a rebellious and sexually powerful response to working from these memories. Having manipulated an erotic drawing of Picasso’s, Nu (Nude) 1971, Frances continues to repeat and evolve this figure. The series currently consists of 20 unique monoprints.
