Ian Rawlinson

Ian's work explores places of transition and aspects of internal and external change. These points of transformation are a recurring theme giving voice to ideas of identity, connection and other internal processes.

His recent work reflects upon ideas of place and memory, taking inspiration from lost areas of Cambridge connected to his childhood. This project has resulted in a series of solo exhibitions and short films which have been shown in Cambridge over the last four years. Each of the exhibitions and films reflects a different area, either lost or greatly changed since he lived in the city.

The prints are based on photographic stills from the short films. The prints combine photographic images with heavily etched linear work and/or black void shapes, which evoke something missing or erased.
