James Green

Green is a full-time artist and printmaker based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

He has worked primarily in screen-print and linocut for around sixteen years, and his subjects range from landscapes to UK wildlife to surreal compositions and abstract pieces.

The works submitted for the WCPF2019 are based on drawings of stones that he has observed on beaches round the UK. He then blew the images up very large and experimented with composition and colour, using screen-print as the final print method. His interest in the stones started from an early age when going on beach holidays. He was fascinated by the colours and patterns in the pebbles, works of art in themselves, and felt the urge to celebrate these in his print work.

Outside of his personal work he has created commissions for people like The Hepworth Wakefield, English Heritage and Sheffield Childrens Festival, and had a retrospective exhibition at the Oriel Mostyn in Llandudno in 2018. He is also the co-organiser of the annual Sheffield Print Fair.
