Martin Grover is a prolific screen printer who has resolutely stuck to the hand painted stencil method. Studying at Croydon College, Trent Polytechnic and RA Schools Working, he continues to exhibit widely. Working directly onto the screen he eschews photographic or digital processes to create richly layered and multi coloured prints. The work is part inspired by his local landscapes of Brixton and West Norwood, while anecdotes, poems, songs and personal experience inform other pieces. The images are illustrative in nature and beautifully observed. They possess a haunting, slightly menacing and melancholic tone but in turn can reveal a wry, playful and humourous quality.
