Maryanne Hunt

Hunt's art work is about her experience of the fragility of life; exploring the nature of domestic warmth and the outside risks that threaten to destroy it. She draws specifically from childhood objects - the only things left behind after a child has gone. In the presence of these objects there remain fragments of haunting memories.

The playful aspect of toys can be ambiguous; at once reassuring and unsettling but nevertheless they serve to emphasise the owner's absence. Things are not always as they appear to be on the surface - something else more sinister can be going on behind the scenes. She aims to capture the feeling and atmosphere of those objects, not only at that moment in time but also what they represented in the past.
