Paul Hawdon’s etchings can be derived from drawings made from observation or can just develop from drawing directly onto the plate. Hawdon’s aim is to try to make something that has an energy within itself.
He enjoys making marks that are non representational but still define an image. The plates go through many states in the making. Hawdon draws and prints his own etchings and finds that the printing process is as much part of the drawing of the image and allowing him to explore the atmosphere of the print.
