Sarah Cliff's work explores the uncanny of the everyday, the domestic and the bodily. Through the layering of form with content, nature with artifice, threat with humour, she playfully interferes with familiar images to evoke contradictory sensations and dislocation. Ambiguous characters, narratives and iconic symbols, invite the viewer into a mysterious yet often brash theatrical setting where conventions are questioned, consensus is challenged and curiosity is deemed a necessity.
Her recent series of prints, Domestic Pleasures, collage together etched images of paintings, crafted and household objects with dry point and plate marks to create curious myths of her own invention.
Sarah Cliff is Artist in Residence at Ochre Print Studio throughout 2018 and was awarded an MFA with distinction, University of Surrey, in 2017.
