After many years engaging with various techniques Printmaker, Steve Edwards, have settled into linocuts, predominantly for the scale and colour that can be obtained. The artist also etches the lino, and enjoys the combination of the more controlled cut marks with the less controllable etched marks. Another key process for Edwards is layering multiple blocks to build an image that plays with both transparent and intense colour combinations.
“My subject matter is mainly derived from photographs that I take, usually cityscapes of London. My aim is to capture an emotional response to these views, whether sublime or mundane, glorious or disturbing, juxtaposing the creations of man with the elemental.”
