Thomas Pennick

Thomas Pennick has always been interested in the act of looking into infinite detail within artworks and images. Through his work he aims to create his own world of immersive forms and mesmerising detail, exploring different processes, focusing on the alternative uses and by products of steel etching plates. Using varnishing oils to create the imagery on the steel and acid to permanently etch those images, Pennick was left with a marbled effect containing immense detail, showing a seemingly infinite range of micro and macro forms.

“While I was not fully in control of the outcome I was very much in control of the process leading to the finished works. I was leaving the final results partly down to chance, a process that was one of discovery rather than creation, trapping and fixing fluidity in time and space.”
